RENEWABLE ENERGY

In today's zeitgeist renewable energy is and will continue to be a hot button issue for the world as a whole. As oceans rise, winters shrink and summers heat up; it is becoming apparent for the need to investigate, design and develop new environmentally friendly sources of energy.

Renewable energies are not new and in various forms including solar and wind are increasing in efficiency and practical applications. How ever some forms of renewable energy like tidal and wave energy have not yet become as effective or applicable. These ocean harnessing technologies are not new and have been used in the united states since the early 1960's. The most mature form of tidal power, known as tidal range technology, generates electricity from the differences in height between a reservoir and a sea as tides ebb and flow. Only a handful of such installations are up and running, with most of the capacity coming from the 240-megawatt Rance River plant and a 254-megawatt power station in Sihwa, South Korea, that has been in operation since 2011. Electricity generated from the movements of the ocean cost two to nine times as much as the highest average price for wind energy in Europe. Because these cost estimates only come from a handful of plants, however, it is hard to gauge how much these technologies could cost in the future.

We will look at the ideas both past and future

The pages on this website will give you a look into the past, present and future of ocean harnessing technologies that will not only help lower the world wide dependence on fossil fuels but help generate safe, reliable and efficient forms of electricity.
