MODERN WIND ENERGY

Even with the use of power lines to send electricity across america, many small and remote areas still utilize wind energy to provide things like water to livestock and as an electricity supply. In the modern era and looking towards the future wind turbines are becoming increasingly more popular across the board for an alternative to things like coal and oil that are not readily renewable forms of energy. Recent shortages in oil have caused the world to take notice and begin investing in things like wind energy. The percent of energy produced by wind energy reached nearly 6.3% of the total electricity generated by the U.S. or roughly 254 billion kWh  a growing and significant portion of the United States electricity.

HOW TURBINES WORK

Wind turbines operate similarly to but completely opposite to a common house fan, by collecting energy from spinning blades as opposed to using energy to spin the blades. Wind turbines harness the kinetic energy created by wind currents to generate lift on the turbines blades and causing them to rotate. The blade assembly is connected to a drive shaft that connects to and creates energy by powering an electric generator.
